AI Tools in Business: Practical Applications for Everyday Work

There are hundreds of artificial intelligence tools. It's overwhelming. Companies have been attempting to adopt these technologies en masse in fear of falling behind. But it doesn’t always end well. Companies are reporting a low ROI from heavy utilization of AI, where high amounts of money is being traded for minimal time saved.
This low ROI can apply to the individual as well. If you are paying for expensive AI tools when free ones can do the trick, you may find yourself in a bad situation. And even for those who know the most popular free AI tools, it may be difficult to discern which tasks they excel in.
That is why today, I’ll highlight three of the most popular and effective FREE tools available—ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini AI—and explain how to use them to get the most out of your workflow.
1. ChatGPT
ChatGPT is one of the most versatile and accessible AI tools out there. It excels in giving quick, actionable, practical answers to questions. It gives solid starting points with minimal prompting. It’s great for tasks like drafting an email, writing LinkedIn posts, or brainstorming headlines for a marketing campaign.
One of its standout features is the Deep Research function, which can help find credible sources and surface relevant information to support professional writing or presentations. The time saved finding sources is invaluable, especially for those that do a lot of research.
2. Claude
If your work leans more toward creative development, such as content writing, branding, or storytelling, Claude is the tool for you. It excels at brainstorming and enhancing complex, messy ideas. It’s particularly strong when it comes to subtlety in tone, which makes it good for polishing creative content or enhancing voice-driven pieces like blog posts or speeches.
Many users describe Claude as the most “human” of the current AIs, meaning it can understand nuance and emotion more easily than others. If you’re stuck on a rough outline, Claude can guide you through it in a natural, intuitive way.
3. Gemini AI
Visual content is increasingly important in business, especially in marketing and branding. Gemini AI excels at generating high-quality images for free, making it an excellent tool for startups or anyone working with limited resources. Of all the free image-generation tools I have used, Gemini consistently produces the most polished results with the fewest visual defects. It can usually do well with complex prompts, and the product comes out more or less the way you envisioned, granted that you gave a detailed enough prompt. (In fact, part of the image attached to this post was created using Gemini.)
In addition to visuals, Gemini also performs well when it comes to code generation. Whether you’re a beginner learning to program or an experienced developer prototyping a new idea, Gemini offers helpful suggestions and can quickly produce functional code snippets.
While these tools are powerful, it's important to remember that they are just that—tools. They’re not a replacement for your voice or your creativity. Instead, think of AI as a collaborative partner that helps enhance your work, offering new perspectives, efficiency, and support. When used thoughtfully, these technologies can elevate your productivity without compromising authenticity.
